August 23, 2019 | Khruangbin DJ Set 11pm-4am
Join us at The Ground at Space Miami for a special Friday evening DJ Set with Laura Lee and Mark Speer of Khruangbin as they share records dug for on their travels around the world. This is the selection too good to leave behind.
Khruangbin is formed of Laura Lee on bass, Mark Speer on guitar, and Donald "DJ" Johnson on drums. The globetrotting Texan trio's sound is rooted in classic soul & RnB and informed by psychedelia, dub and music from around the world - all captured in widescreen and performed with impeccable style.
Whereas their 2015 debut album 'The Universe Smiles Upon You' was influenced by 60s and 70s Thai cassettes and compilations of southeast Asian pop, rock and funk, 2018's 'Con Todo El Mundo' hops east over India to take inspiration in similarly underdiscovered funk and soul sounds of the Middle-East, particularly from Iran. Laura Lee explains the album's title: "My grandpa would always ask me 'Como me quieres?' ('how much do you love me'?), and he'd only ever accept one response. 'Con todo el mundo' (With all the world).”
Khruangbin DJ sets reflect the bands passion for music from all around the globe, that keeps the dance floor moving.

“InDreams is one of the best techno full-lengths in recent memory.” [Noisey]
Other producers and DJs have explained this metaphysical rave experience as a way of communing with the divine, but Minimal Violence have it right, comparing it to the world of dreams.

“This frantic, gabber-inflected heart-stopper sounds like an accelerationist anthem” - Resident Advisor (June Anthem – Best New Techno Track)
Minimal Violence is a collaboration between the explosive partnership of Ash Luk and Lida P. The duo, who focus on the live production of electronic music through the use of hardware sequencers, drum machines and synths, derive inspiration from early electronic and minimal synth works while integrating heavier UK rave and hardcore vibes.
"Lida Pawliuk and Ashlee Luk took inspiration from their approach to live performances, and this in-real-time feel gives "Acid Lakes" a commanding sense of visceral urgency." –– Listen to "Acid Lakes" via Thump

A fraternity of alternative British rock bands led by acoustic pioneers The Alarm, post punk auteurs Modern English, and the charismatic Jay Aston’s Gene Loves Jezebel will take to the road throughout North America in 2019.
Presented By: Heroes Live Entertainment
The Alarm was made in Wales, UK and by the time of 1981’s debut single ‘Unsafe Building’, featured a daring mix of amped-up acoustic guitars, harmonica and passionate vocals that invited the enduring description “Bob Dylan meets The Clash”.
This is the sound of The Alarm that has been heard around the world ever since, with 17 Top 50 UK singles, a host of successful albums and over 6 million sales worldwide, a career that has also seen founding member Mike Peters sing on stage with the likes of Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen and U2. Hits include “Sixty Eight Guns”, “Strength”, “Rain In The Summertime”, “Where Were You Hiding When The Storm Broke?”, “Spirit Of ’76” and more.
Modern English are a new wave/post-punk band from Colchester, Essex, England best known for their hit single “I Melt With You”. The song has been covered by a variety of artists, with several different versions being licensed for film and television worldwide. Other favorites include “Hands Across The Sea”, “Someone’s Calling” and “Ink And Paper”. The 4AD band recently released their first album in 30 years.
Jay Aston’s Gene Loves Jezebel
(with original members Jay Aston, James Stevenson, Pete Rizzo)
Gene Loves Jezebel (GLJ) are a British rock band formed in the early 1980s whose best-known songs include “Heartache”, “Desire (Come and Get It)” (1986), “The Motion Of Love” (1987), “Jealous” (1990) and “Break The Chain” (1993) as well as their broody dark alternative club hits “Bruises” (1983), “Influenza (Relapse)” (1984), and “The Cow” (1985).
KOTA The Friend is a hip hop artist and musician from Brooklyn, NY.
At an early age he found his love for music and hip hop. At 9 years old KOTA was introduced to the trumpet and was noticed by music teachers and family members as a gifted musician. He would later go on to attend schools for performing arts students.
In High School KOTA taught himself to play guitar, keyboard and bass guitar which led to him venturing into the world of producing beats. KOTA is also a professional cinematographer, shooting for Asher Roth, BLU and many underground artists.
Since KOTA’s return to music he has been releasing music non stop and has been featured by XXL magazine, FADER, BILLBOARD, Pigeons & Planes, HipHopDX, NYLON, The Source, MILK, and many other blogs. But more than anything he continues to make music for the people that need it.
Following the release of Kota’s third project “Anything”, Koto returns a year later with his debut studio album, Foto, released in May 15th, 2019.
Kerela Dust makes their highly anticipated return to Space for their LIVE debut at The Ground. It’s a night you won’t want to miss!
KERALA DUST seeks to bridge that divide between electronic music and traditional songwriting, drawing on influences as far and wide as Tom Waits, Talking Heads and Abdulla Rashim.
Currently based in South London, the strange and excessive confusion of the city is reflected back in the anonymity of Kerala Dust’s basement studio. Whether as a solo artist in production or as a live trio in performance : the members within the inclusive isolation of this project would like you to dance while also wondering if there’s really a point to anything. The realisation that there is no point will merely be liberating.
KERALA DUST WILL TAKE YOU TO ANOTHER PLANET WITHIN YOURSELF.
You’re out driving in the cool desert air, the only car under a starry night sky.
You’re in a dark crowded room, lonely even though you’re surrounded by anonymous faces.
You’re walking along a neon-lit street with a warm breeze carrying a distant thump.
These are all things you can think when listening to Kerala Dust. By which you could say their music is very distinctive and very evocative of emotion. Take a listen, you’ll know what we mean.
It’s definitely something you can bump along to, but nothing you would blast obnoxiously. It’s cool, sophisticated, and deep. All of that extends beyond their sound and into their visual branding as well.

Iconic Warp mainstay Nightmares on Wax is making his long-anticipated return to our city on Saturday September 21st. The marriage of soul, hip-hop, dub and timeless club sounds that N.O.W. has been mutating and perfecting for years finds perhaps its most fluid form yet in his latest work.
Energized by globetrotting runs of studio sessions and DJ sets, this latest salvo is a masterpiece of contemporary and classic genre-blending that solidifies Nightmares On Wax’s place as an inspirational electronic music figurehead. This includes the shamanistic vocals of recent single Back To Nature, and in particular the arresting voices of Mozez alongside Kanye West and Flume collaborator Allan Kingdom, as featured on brand new cut Citizen Kane.
Nightmares on Wax is one of the most influential artists of a generation, his music has inspired many musicians and producers across the globe over his quarter decade career. As Warp’s longest serving active artist, he has broadened the sound of the label and paved the way for artists such as Flying Lotus, Hudson Mohawke and Mount Kimbie.
Daniel Avery, DJ and producer from England known for his hazy, experimental dance tracks will play alongside Australian tech/electronic producer, Mall Grab, on Friday October 4th at The Ground for a very rare collaborative set.
The collaboration of these two creative forces beckons a night of dance euphoria with music ranging from tastefully refashioning classic rave sounds—acid synths, techno rhythms, long-distance trance builds—into cutting-edge club cuts.
“Electronic music is unique in that, whilst it has an immediate effect on the body, the culture surrounding it has the ability to run deep into your life. Whenever I’m in a club, I want to give myself up to music. This is the very thing that excites me the most. Witnessing a DJ create an atmosphere in a room from the ground up takes patience and effort from everyone present but when the pivotal moments hit, your watch stops ticking.”
It is this thinking which motivated and inspired the making of Daniel Avery’s entry into the treasured DJ-Kicks series. Across its 78 minutes the mix creates a hypnotic space focusing on “music by some like-minded souls” from the outer reaches of techno. It is a mix concerned with the idea of taking a collective breath and allowing records their own space.
New to the scene, but not to be underestimated, 22-year-old Mall Grab is breaking all kinds of moulds on his rapid rise to recognition on the world stage. Working from the confines of his decidedly un-electronic hometown of Newcastle, NSW, he is a clear example of the connective power of the Internet. Proof that the web does have the ability get real talent noticed. His sound has been described as ‘mildly celestial “hella stoned” introspections that pay homage to old Three 6 Mafia mixtapes as much as more recent astral experiences in house and techno.’ Inverted Audio says that ‘Mall Grab has steadily grown into a surefire purveyor of leg-stretching, dusty house material.’ With support from artists like George Fitzgerald and Four Tet, it seems like the best is still yet to come.

In-demand German DJ and record producing phenomenon, Helena Hauff, invades The Ground on Saturday October 12 + Special Guest at The Terrace
Some call her ‘The Dark Queen of Electro,’ others call it EBM, Techno & Acid House. Either way, make no mistake, Helena Hauff will shut the room down at The Ground for her epic debut at Club Space!
*** A TICKET TO THIS EVENT GRANTS YOU UNRESTRICTED ACCESS TO THE GROUND AND THE TERRACE AT CLUB SPACE ***
Based in Hamburg Germany, Helena Hauff is an acclaimed DJ and producer of gritty, hard-edged electro techno. She is known for her "stripped-down techno and electro tracks" that are recorded using strictly analog equipment, usually in one take, and draws influences from acid house, EBM and industrial music.
In 2018, with an ever-busier touring schedule, she managed to record the follow-up to her 2015 debut album; Qualm focused on fewer layers, yet aimed to create something equally as effective as her previous material.
She is everything thrilling about dance music right now. Catch her in our intimate room in the wake of her outstanding new album.

Cursive, Cloud Nothings & The Appleseed Cast
The Ground at Club Space | 34 NE 11th St | Miami | 305.375.0001
Join us for the long-awaited return of Cursive to South FL and the Miami debut of Cloud Nothings. Support: The Appleseed Cast
Over the past two decades, Cursive has become known for writing smart, tightly woven concept albums where frontman Tim Kasher turns his unflinching gaze on specific, oftentimes challenging themes, and examines them with an incisively brutal honesty. 2000’s Domestica dealt with divorce; 2003’s The Ugly Organ tackled art, sex, and relationships; 2006’s Happy Hollow skewered organized religion; 2009’s Mama, I’m Swollen grappled with the human condition and social morality; and 2012’s I Am Gemini explored the battle between good and evil. But the band’s remarkable eighth full-length, Vitriola, required a different approach -- one less rigidly themed and more responsive as the band struggles with existentialism veering towards nihilism and despair; the ways in which society, much like a writer, creates and destroys; and an oncoming dystopia that feels eerily near at hand.
For the first time since Happy Hollow, Vitriola reunites Kasher, guitarist/singer Ted Stevens and bassist Matt Maginn with founding drummer Clint Schnase, as well as co-producer Mike Mogis at ARC Studios in Omaha. They’re joined by Patrick Newbery on keys (who’s been a full-time member for years) and touring mainstay Megan Siebe on cello. The album runs the sonic gamut between rich, resonant melodicism, Hitchcockian anxiety, and explosive catharsis -- and no Cursive album would be complete without scream-along melodies and lyrics that, upon reflection, make for unlikely anthems.
Cloud Nothings was founded in a Cleveland basement, the one-man recording project of Dylan Baldi. Prolific from the start, Baldi’s early work was rough but immediate: crudely recorded, spring-loaded spasms of Buzzcocks-informed pop that quickly found an online following among the lo-fi-inclined.
Their sixth studio album, entitled Last Building Burning, was released on October 19, 2018 on Carpark Records. Following its release "Under the Radar" rated the album 8/10 stating "...Cloud Nothings have never been better." "The Line of Best Fit" 9/10 saying "Baldi and his conspirators have created something fantastic here – easily matching the scope and ambition of artists across the musical spectrum. They always seemed to be on the cusp of greatness, and Last Building Burning is their first step over that threshold." "Pitchfork" 7.6 and singles out the track "Leave Him Now" as "Cloud Nothings at their best: direct, visceral, vulnerable. It hits in the gut and rings in the head, striking that golden ratio of ferocity and tunefulness that this band does best."
The Appleseed Cast
The Appleseed Cast is an American rock band, based in Lawrence, Kansas, with 20 years of recording and touring. The band was founded in the early days of emo by singer-guitarist Christopher Crisci and guitarist Aaron Pillar, and quickly grew to fame. The Appleseed Cast has steadily evolved over the release of eight full-length albums with Crisci at the songwriting helm, changing lineups but never breaking up, continuing to hone the TAC sound. The band’s current lineup includes Crisci, Ben Kimball, Nick Fredrickson, and Sean Bergman.
Major acclaim first came in the early 2000s and earned them a 9.0 from Pitchfork for their album set Low Level Owl, Vol I and Vol II. The band has enjoyed continued high praise for their work on Two Conversations, Peregrine, Illumination Ritual, and others.
The innovative duo Ed Handley and Andy Turner have been expanding the realm of electronic music as Plaid since they diverged from trio The Black Dog in the early 90s. In 2019, Plaid stand alongside the likes of Aphex Twin, Autechre and Nightmares on Wax as mainstays of the Warp label as it reaches its 30th anniversary, celebrating achievements in music like few others. Their adventurous and playful approach has taken them to working with Björk and drawing comparisons to fellow collaborators Mark Bell, Arca, Haxan Cloak and more recent Releases by Skee Mask and Daniel Avery. They’ve worked with the London Sinfonietta, the Southbank Gamelan Players, composed for Felix’s Machines robotic sculptures, and soundtracked events as diverse as reindeer migration in northern Europe to a level in popular platformer Little Big Planet 3. In a live capacity their show straddles both a contemporary and club capacity, able to pack venues from Sydney Opera House and Southbank to Bloc and Berghain.
Plaid sit right at the very heart of global electronica. In fact there's a very real sense in which Ed Handley and Andy Turner are the perfect encapsulation of what the electronic music of their generation was all about. As Plaid and as two-thirds of The Black Dog, they were central to the “Artificial Intelligence” movement of the early-mid 1990s: alongside their WARP stablemates Autechre, The Aphex Twin, B12 and allies like Richie Hawtin, Speedy J, Kenny Larkin, they brought new rhythmic variation, emotive melody and sensual textures to electronic music, creating a warm and welcoming counterpart to the white heat of the rave explosion.
But where the others would swiftly diverge and head off in many creative directions – into increasing abstraction or intricacy, or back towards pure techno – Plaid were the ones who stayed truest to the musical values they started out with. Their sound palette has got broader over the years, their techniques more sophisticated, they increasingly incorporate “real” instruments – especially with their ever-closer collaborations with multi-instrumentalist Benet Walsh – but over the years their focus has remained the same: intricate but always grooving rhythm, immersive listening experience and melodies and sound design that connect direct to the emotional centres.
Covering a wide range of emotions, influences and inspirations; ‘Polymer’ is an album for modern times. It’s creation was informed by a manifesto of Polyphony, Pollution and Politics; clashing themes of environment, synthetics, survival/mortality and humanity’s (dis)connection.

Florida native, Yeek, makes his debut with us at The Ground on Thursday August 15th!
Yeek is a Los Angeles based singer, songwriter, and producer originally from South Florida. His music is a distinctive blend of elements taken from hip hop, rock and pop -- a reflection of the genreless ears of youth in 2019. In 2017 he released his album Sebastian, an infectiously melancholy collection of tracks that turned heads. More recently Yeek released his EP BLACKHEART, on which he demonstrated significant artistic growth and a more realized vision. That project left Yeek poised to have a breakout 2019 as he prepares the release of his forthcoming EP IDK WHERE.

& The Band From Space
Satori is a defining artist of his generation. A raw talent, true passion & dedication to craft all blend together to create a truly authentic experience that connects deep into the heart of those who experience his music.
The live band experience just takes it one level higher.
What is Satori, you say? Music created by this artist, is exactly what his name represents-
-- Enlightenment and Energy.
We are born in a chaotic age, all looking for our own space.
A space that exists beyond ideas of what’s right and what’s wrong.
A space where we can surrender, and find ourselves. Satori helps us find our way.
Satori is inspired to capture electronic world music, where he combines endless blends of seductive trance and mind-altering earthy tones. It is not defined by any-one genre.
Satori is here to satisfy any meditative music-lover by provoking a spiritual journey through his infinite sound-garden. Listen as you take on new dimensions of his musical world, where movement, dreaming and creativity are endless. Let the sound live in your heart, harvesting every last memory of dance and rhythm. Satori’s sound is more than just a switch on a soundboard; he is the man behind the instrument, creating melodies from the piano, kora, kalimba, and guitar in combination with a deeper form of electronic music.
Whenever you’re ready, Satori will meet you there, to the place one can only dream of.
Nicola Cruz is an electronic producer, musician, and DJ. Born in France to proud South American descent, he currently lives and works in Quito, Ecuador, in the heart of the Andes mountains. Nicola started his career as a percussionist, thanks to which he developed an early interest in electronic music.
His work draws from a broad variety of sources, in particular, a deep passion for the Andean landscapes, their cultures, rituals, and rhythms. His music radiates an intimate understanding of nature, from the organic exuberance of his sound to the soft cadence of his songs.
In this mix a delicate balance between forces always prevails: his music is deeply rhythmic without losing the melody, and even though it is formed in collaboration with artists from different times and spaces, it remains personal and intimate.
From this musical connection between past and present, traditional and modern, an ongoing South American movement has arisen, exploring local indigenous and afro cosmologies through a carefully crafted analog sound.
LINK Miami Rebels presents NICOLA CRUZ
Whether bending genres or collaborating with artists like James Blake, MGMT, and Charlotte Gainsbourg, Connan Mockasin has always maneuvered in mysterious ways. After touring with the likes of Radiohead and Neil & Liam Finn (Crowded House), the R&B surrealist continues assembling a cult around his theater, nay spectacle, of life. Jassbusters is Connan Mockasin’s third album and first in five years.
An unclassifiable, unconventional album that neither picks up from nor abandons the modes of 2013’s widely-embraced Caramel or its 2010 predecessor Forever Dolphin Love, Jassbusters foreshadows a five-part melodrama film titled Bostyn 'n Dobsyn, created by Mockasin. Jassbusters soundtracks the unpredictable narrative of the film in eclectic, electric ways.

The band’s recorded material can be divided into two distinct periods. Their early work focused on 60s-tinged pop and psychedelic elements channeled through the prism of Kevin Barnes’s unique lyricism. James Blake, singer, songwriter, Grammy nominated, acclaimed on a global scale with a voice capable of bringing grown men to tears, is coming to Miami for an intimate performance unlike any other.
The idea of 1-800 Dinosaur as any sort of entity came as a result of impromptu after party DJ sets on James Blake’s 2011 tour of America. For many, after parties might conjure images of a stranger’s student digs and self-proclaimed DJs laying on a showcase of questionable mixing, but it’s difficult to imagine these parties in the same light. These gatherings were the birthplace of the 1-800 collective and have grown in to a club night that’s now able to stand very steadily on its own two feet.
Having branched out from its spiritual home of Plastic People, 1-800 parties are a what’s what of dance music working under the premise of anything goes while of course drawing heavily on the scene that sprung them. Where else could you hear the Harmonimix version of ‘Bills Bills Bills’ dropped in to a set as if the most normal thing in the world? Featuring resident DJs Blake, Dan Foat, Airhead, Mr Assister and Klaus as well as the recent addition of Roll Deep alumni Trim on MCing duties, the 1-800 club night stands alone in what it offers in a heavily saturated market.
A grand performance coming your way!
