Asian Da Brat (formerly known as Asian Doll) is a native of Dallas, Texas. At the age of 21, she became the first woman signed to Gucci Mane's 1017 Eskimo Records since its inception in 2010.

Her career began with the release of Da Rise of Barbie Doll Gang Empire on December 16, 2015 and public beefs has contributed to greater attention on social media. Other projects include Drippin in Glo (2016), Project Princess Vol. 1 (2016), Outtaspace (2017), Kill Bill, Vol. 1 (2017) Doll SZN, her eighth mixtape release Unfuccwitable (May 3, 2019).

Asian Da Brat stands among a new generation of young women rappers basking in the limelight of strong female rappers like Nicki Minaj in the rap game. A series of rappers have taken up the moniker "Doll" which may reference the Barbie Doll persona developed by Minaj. She has been featured with PnB Rock, Rico Nasty and Bhad Bhabie.

In attempt to distinguish herself from a pack of female rappers using the stage name Doll, Allen officially changed her name in 2019. The name Asian Da Brat was supposedly a reference to the Atlanta-based veteran female rapper Shawntae Harris better known as Da Brat, whose 1994 studio album Funkdafied was the first platinum-certified record by a woman rapper. In an April 2019 interview on Hot97, Allen explained that Da Brat was a reference to the brand of children's toys known as Bratz Dolls.

In the past four years, Allen has put out eight mixtapes looking to gain more recognition for hip hop's leading voices of women.

Public figure for both the youth and women makes her name from leadership acts and helping around various communities of poverty.

Multitalented rapper and artist Miss Money (Kim Ward) was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where she began rapping at the age of ten. By the time she was eighteen, she began taking her music career to new heights; since that time, Miss Money has performed and recorded extensively throughout the East Coast.

When asked if her rap comes from within or from what she observes around her, Miss Money replied “Rap is me so it comes from in and out and all around” Stating only one regret as a performer, Miss Money has always said that sometimes she wished she would have went harder even to the crowd says differently.

Some of Ms. Money’s achievements to date include wining the Bragging Rights Awards for Pittsburgh Rookie of The Year in 2009, being nominated for PHHA (Pittsburgh Hip Hop Awards) for best new artist, opening acts for RUN DMC showing direct support for Russell Simmons and setting the tone as an opening artist for Wiz Khalifa. Miss Money further states that her all-time dream gig would be to perform in front of a crowd so large that you lose sight of the crowd and still find a way to communicate with every single fan. “I love making people rock, sway, jump up and down and scream. I like to perform not just spit my lyrics over a microphone”, says Miss Money.”I am not just a rap artist I am a performer; they love me as a performer."

Miss Money is currently in the studio working on her first mix-tape as a solo artist. The upcoming release will be titled “Hood Credentials” her first release off current label Different Circle. “This mixtape is about the different sides of me. I want people to see me as an artist not a rapper, the beauty of art in music is about difference and Miss Money is…different”. Although tight recording schedules and appearances fill the schedule quickly, Miss Money is planning her first tour mid-November along with the “Hood Credentials Mixtape” release and is working around the clock with ID Labs engineer Big Jerm on the hottest album likely to drop early 2011. “I feel like I have something to prove especially repping the Burgh, Wiz paved the way now its my turn.” states Miss Money.

Keep your eyes and ears open you don’t want to miss this trip.

Stavroz (LIVE) at The Ground

Stavroz was formed in 2011 by IJsbrand & Gert, both dj’s and sound engineers looking for a way to channel their musical antics. Soon thereafter, Maxim & Pieter joined on live shows and in the studio. Their first vinyl on Délicieuse Records was picked up on international blogs, resulting in a n°1 position on the Hype Machine and was chosen vinyl of the month by the German ‘Faze Magazine’. Known for injecting an overall ethnic, acoustic and organic vibe to electronic music, these four friends pocketed releases for Kindisch, Bedrock and their own label ‘Moodfamily’ in Ghent.

Their intimate live set and unique dj sets were quickly picked up, sending them on regular trips abroad. Only to return home for some fifa and their weekly show on Belgian National alternative radio ‘Studio Brussel’ where they display an uncanny ability to combine the old with the new and the East with the West.

The Blaze (DJ) at The Ground

The Blaze are a French duo, consisting of cousins Guillaume and Jonathan Alric, both music producers and film directors. Their story began with their inaugural track, Virile, released in 2016 on Bromance records. The duo then went on to released their debut Territory EP in April 2017, and in 2018 Heaven, the first track and music video of their debut album, on Animal63.

In September 2018 The Blaze shared the incredible video for their new single QUEENS. This stirring new self-directed offering from the French cousins offers a sobering new insight into the world we live in today. As always, everything The Blaze create is open to total interpretation. The ambiguity of their music and film alike is arguably what makes the band so alluring, constantly launching the viewer high onto a bed of complex human emotions.

Cursive
Website: https://cursivevitriola.com/
Facebook: http://facebook.com/cursive/
Twitter: https://twitter.com/cursivetheband
Instagram: http://instagram.com/cursivetheband

Over the past two decades, Cursive has become known for writing smart, tightly woven concept albums where frontman Tim Kasher turns his unflinching gaze on specific, oftentimes challenging themes, and examines them with an incisively brutal honesty. 2000’s Domestica dealt with divorce; 2003’s The Ugly Organ tackled art, sex, and relationships; 2006’s Happy Hollow skewered organized religion; 2009’s Mama, I’m Swollen grappled with the human condition and social morality; and 2012’s I Am Gemini explored the battle between good and evil. But the band’s remarkable eighth full-length, Vitriola, required a different approach -- one less rigidly themed and more responsive as the band struggles with existentialism veering towards nihilism and despair; the ways in which society, much like a writer, creates and destroys; and an oncoming dystopia that feels eerily near at hand.

For the first time since Happy Hollow, Vitriola reunites Kasher, guitarist/singer Ted Stevens and bassist Matt Maginn with founding drummer Clint Schnase, as well as co-producer Mike Mogis at ARC Studios in Omaha. They’re joined by Patrick Newbery on keys (who’s been a full-time member for years) and touring mainstay Megan Siebe on cello. The album runs the sonic gamut between rich, resonant melodicism, Hitchcockian anxiety, and explosive catharsis -- and no Cursive album would be complete without scream-along melodies and lyrics that, upon reflection, make for unlikely anthems.

Cloud Nothings
Website: http://cloudnothings.com/
Facebook: http://facebook.com/cloudnothings
Twitter: https://twitter.com/cloudnothings
Instagram: http://instagram.com/cloudnothings

Cloud Nothings was founded in a Cleveland basement, the one-man recording project of Dylan Baldi. Prolific from the start, Baldi’s early work was rough but immediate: crudely recorded, spring-loaded spasms of Buzzcocks-informed pop that quickly found an online following among the lo-fi-inclined.

Their sixth studio album, entitled Last Building Burning, was released on October 19, 2018 on Carpark Records. Following its release "Under the Radar" rated the album 8/10 stating "...Cloud Nothings have never been better." "The Line of Best Fit" 9/10 saying "Baldi and his conspirators have created something fantastic here – easily matching the scope and ambition of artists across the musical spectrum. They always seemed to be on the cusp of greatness, and Last Building Burning is their first step over that threshold." "Pitchfork" 7.6 and singles out the track "Leave Him Now" as "Cloud Nothings at their best: direct, visceral, vulnerable. It hits in the gut and rings in the head, striking that golden ratio of ferocity and tunefulness that this band does best."

The Appleseed Cast is an American rock band, based in Lawrence, Kansas, with 20 years of recording and touring. The band was founded in the early days of emo by singer-guitarist Christopher Crisci and guitarist Aaron Pillar, and quickly grew to fame. The Appleseed Cast has steadily evolved over the release of eight full-length albums with Crisci at the songwriting helm, changing lineups but never breaking up, continuing to hone the TAC sound. The band’s current lineup includes Crisci, Ben Kimball, Nick Fredrickson, and Sean Bergman.

Major acclaim first came in the early 2000s and earned them a 9.0 from Pitchfork for their album set Low Level Owl, Vol I and Vol II. The band has enjoyed continued high praise for their work on Two Conversations, Peregrine, Illumination Ritual, and others.

Plaid at The Ground

The innovative duo Ed Handley and Andy Turner have been expanding the realm of electronic music as Plaid since they diverged from trio The Black Dog in the early 90s. In 2019, Plaid stand alongside the likes of Aphex Twin, Autechre and Nightmares on Wax as mainstays of the Warp label as it reaches its 30th anniversary, celebrating achievements in music like few others. Their adventurous and playful approach has taken them to working with Björk and drawing comparisons to fellow collaborators Mark Bell, Arca, Haxan Cloak and more recent Releases by Skee Mask and Daniel Avery. They’ve worked with the London Sinfonietta, the Southbank Gamelan Players, composed for Felix’s Machines robotic sculptures, and soundtracked events as diverse as reindeer migration in northern Europe to a level in popular platformer Little Big Planet 3. In a live capacity their show straddles both a contemporary and club capacity, able to pack venues from Sydney Opera House and Southbank to Bloc and Berghain.

Plaid sit right at the very heart of global electronica. In fact there's a very real sense in which Ed Handley and Andy Turner are the perfect encapsulation of what the electronic music of their generation was all about. As Plaid and as two-thirds of The Black Dog, they were central to the “Artificial Intelligence” movement of the early-mid 1990s: alongside their WARP stablemates Autechre, The Aphex Twin, B12 and allies like Richie Hawtin, Speedy J, Kenny Larkin, they brought new rhythmic variation, emotive melody and sensual textures to electronic music, creating a warm and welcoming counterpart to the white heat of the rave explosion.

But where the others would swiftly diverge and head off in many creative directions – into increasing abstraction or intricacy, or back towards pure techno – Plaid were the ones who stayed truest to the musical values they started out with. Their sound palette has got broader over the years, their techniques more sophisticated, they increasingly incorporate “real” instruments – especially with their ever-closer collaborations with multi-instrumentalist Benet Walsh – but over the years their focus has remained the same: intricate but always grooving rhythm, immersive listening experience and melodies and sound design that connect direct to the emotional centres.

Covering a wide range of emotions, influences and inspirations; ‘Polymer’ is an album for modern times. It’s creation was informed by a manifesto of Polyphony, Pollution and Politics; clashing themes of environment, synthetics, survival/mortality and humanity’s (dis)connection.

Tobe Nwigwe is an enigma. The lyrics and tone of his music tell the story of a difficult upbringing in Alief, TX. Like other rappers who grew up in the proverbial hood, Tobe’s autobiographical tracks conjure images of gang violence, drug deals, pimps and prostitution. The authenticity in his work is palpable. Still, the man is a beacon of positivity and graciousness. The same songs that describe shootouts and the loss of childhood friends also speak on the power of faith and the importance of purpose.

Tobe has a singular goal in life: “to make purpose popular.” The first-generation-Nigerian kid from Alief (Houston, TX) who had a scholarship to play college ball and dreams of playing in the NFL, saw those dreams dashed by a career-ending foot injury his senior year. In his despair, he turned to his faith and found a new calling; he would teach others to “move through purpose.” Long before he ever put pen to paper and called himself a rapper, Tobe was speaking to rooms full of students through his self-started nonprofit foundation, TEAM GINI, educating them on the merits of a purpose-driven existence. Through tremendous consistency and execution, Tobe has attracted fans across the globe, including culture heavy-weights: Erykah Badu, Sway Calloway and Dave Chappelle.

Melodime is a Virginia-based band with influences in both country and rock that features emotionally charged anthems, piano driven hooks, and energetic guitar solos for a dynamic, organic sound.

Melodime, featuring Brad Rhodes (lead vocals, guitar), Sammy Duis (piano, organ, bass), Tyler Duis (drums), and Jon Wiley (guitar, mandolin, dobro), has performed over 100+ shows annually throughout the continental United States, sharing the stage with such well-known acts as Sam Hunt, Eli Young Band, A Thousand Horses, and Sister Hazel.

The band has also left its mark internationally with performances in Mexico, Canada, and Europe, all while founding and running a charity, ‘Now I Play Along Too,’ which provides musical instruments and lessons to underprivileged children in the DC area, Florida, Nepal, Kenya, and Haiti.

The band is quickly becoming a fan-favorite in the festival scene, playing five consecutive Rock Boat cruises, as well as Musikfest, Herndon Festival, Mile of Music, and other events. In their hometown of Northern Virginia, the group has performed at popular venues such as The State Theatre, 9:30 Club, The Hamilton, and Baltimore Soundstage.

The Talbott Brothers
Website: https://thetalbottbrothers.com/
Facebook: https://facebook.com/talbottbrothers/
Twitter: https://twitter.com/talbottbrothers
Instagram: https://instagram.com/talbottbrothers/

The Talbott Brothers are a product of America’s heartland. Though currently based in Portland, Oregon, the duo grew up in Imperial, Nebraska, with a population just eking over 2,000. As indie-folk-rock musicians, Nick and Tyler Talbott, are somewhat of an anomaly, originating from a place where farming or ranching are the more typical career paths. Their honest songwriting is not only a breath of fresh air, but collections of down-to-earth messages that prove to be prevalent in today’s world.

Ghost Talker is the second full-length studio album from the sibling duo. Blood harmonies and sibling rivalry are evident in their songwriting with lyrics pulling from the trials of everyday life and the questions we all face. “Everyone has ghosts, whether they talk about them or not. We wanted to take off the mask and be honest with this record, hoping that what we needed to say is what people needed to hear.”

At its core, the album is transformative in nature, prompting the listener to question motives, face realities, and go to war with their own ghosts. Spiritual apprehension and seeking answers are common themes. “Shadowboxing” is a hard look in the mirror, realizing that what you have been fighting all along is your own fear. “It takes one good fight to turn things around.”

Lead single, “Run No More” forces a look at the past while offering a soul shaking guitar solo that feels like a rally cry. “We tried running for a long time but it doesn’t do a heart any good. Sometimes in a wake-up call you realize what’s most important to you. "Run No More" is about when your legs give out and you gotta turn around and fight.”

Drawing influence from John Mayer, Kaleo and Mumford & Sons, Ghost Talker will challenge your built-in world view and push you to embrace the unknown. No strangers to the road, The Talbott Brothers will be touring across the US, supporting the album release this fall 2019.

Huntington Beach, California's (hed) p.e. (the "pe" stands for "Planet Earth") were founded in 1994 by frontman Jahred (aka M.C.U.D. aka Jared Gomes), whose goal was to fuse the region's long-standing punk rock heritage with G-funk-inflected hip-hop -- a sound he labeled "G-punk." The group found mainstream success in the early 2000s via their second and third albums, Broke and Blackout, both of which were released by Jive Records.

A move to indie label Suburban Noize yielded the 9/11 Truth Movement concept LP New World Orphans, and in 2019 the eclectic rockers issued their tenth studio long-player, Stampede.

(hed) p.e. (also comprising lead guitarist Wesley "Wesstyle" Geer, rhythm guitarist Chad "Chizad" Benekos, bassist Mark "Mawk" Young, drummer Ben "B.C." Vaught, and Doug "DJ Product @ 1969" Boyce on turntables and samples) released their eponymous debut through Jive Records, then hit the road with Ozzfest and bands like Korn, Static-X, and System of a Down. A second album, Broke, followed in the year 2000, and a third, Blackout, arrived in 2003, after which (hed) p.e. switched labels from Jive to Koch and underwent something of an overhaul (welcoming new guitarist Jaxon Benge and drummer Mark "Moke" Bistany) prior to recording their fourth album, 2005's Only in Amerika.

The all-new Back 2 Base X and the Best of (hed) Planet Earth compilation arrived in 2006, followed by Flat Bill Hat in the summer of 2007 and the politically charged concept LP New World Orphans in 2009. A second compilation, titled Major Pain 2 Indee Freedom: The Best of Hed P.E., was released in 2010, featuring a new track and a limited-edition concert film of the group performing live in Los Angeles. That same year they dropped Truth Rising, which broke into the Billboard Top 100. Yet another compilation was released in 2013, just as DJ Product parted ways with the band. More departures came the next year as Benge and Young left, replaced by Greg "Gregzilla" Harrison and Kurt "Kid Bass" Blankenship, respectively. Evolution (previously titled Ascension) was issued in the summer of 2014. Forever!, their ninth effort and first with only one founding member, arrived in 2016. In 2019 the band returned with their tenth full-length effort, the versatile Stampede.

Giorgia Angiuli at The Ground

Born in Puglia, also known as the heel of Italy’s boot, Giorgia is a classically trained musician, composer and multi- instrumentalist. Very early on she developed a strong interest for electronic music and started to experiment with new live techniques. The solo project of Giorgia Angiuli stylistically moves between pop, techno and house. She uses her voice to create a dreamy dimension intensified by the use of unique toy instruments. During her set she combines keyboards, drum pad and theremin with the sounds of a toy flute, sax, trumpets and many other toys. Mixing all of these samples and loops she shapes a vibrating and energetic groove that sets the dance floor on fire.

The agenda of the summer in 2019 showed once again qualitative bookings in Europe and worldwide: Marvellous Island in Paris, Riviera Electro Festival in Vallauris (Nice), Sandbox Fesitval in Hurghada, The Lake Festival in Zurich, A Taste of Summer in Ankara, Grüne Sonne Festival near Munich, Roskilde Festival near Copenhagen, Exit Festival in Serbia, Weekend Beach Festival in Malaga, Intro Festival in Racibórz, Deichbrand Festival in Wurster, Fairground Fest in Sousse, Tanzen im Grünen in Nürnberg, Rock Oz’Arènes Festival in Avanches, Echowaves Festival in Anaklia, Woodstower Festival in Lyon. And of course present in Ibiza with gigs at Amneisa, Heart and DC10.

As the years have passed Giorgia has increased her profile and visibility with her engaging online presence, it is no wonder every video she posts goes viral receiving thousands or millions of plays. For a small town girl from Puglia, now residing in Florence, this classically trained musician turned live electronic act is just getting started, so sit back and enjoy what’s to come!

Based in Hamburg Germany, Helena Hauff is an acclaimed DJ and producer of gritty, hard-edged electro techno. She is known for her "stripped-down techno and electro tracks" that are recorded using strictly analog equipment, usually in one take, and draws influences from acid house, EBM and industrial music.

In 2018, with an ever-busier touring schedule, she managed to record the follow-up to her 2015 debut album; Qualm focused on fewer layers, yet aimed to create something equally as effective as her previous material.
She is everything thrilling about dance music right now. Catch her in our intimate room in the wake of her outstanding new album.

Daniel Avery & Mall Grab at The Ground

Daniel Avery, DJ and producer from England known for his hazy, experimental dance tracks will play alongside Australian tech/electronic producer, Mall Grab, on Friday October 4th at The Ground for a very rare collaborative set.

The collaboration of these two creative forces beckons a night of dance euphoria with music ranging from tastefully refashioning classic rave sounds—acid synths, techno rhythms, long-distance trance builds—into cutting-edge club cuts.

DANIEL AVERY

“Electronic music is unique in that, whilst it has an immediate effect on the body, the culture surrounding it has the ability to run deep into your life. Whenever I’m in a club, I want to give myself up to music. This is the very thing that excites me the most. Witnessing a DJ create an atmosphere in a room from the ground up takes patience and effort from everyone present but when the pivotal moments hit, your watch stops ticking.”

It is this thinking which motivated and inspired the making of Daniel Avery’s entry into the treasured DJ-Kicks series. Across its 78 minutes the mix creates a hypnotic space focusing on “music by some like-minded souls” from the outer reaches of techno. It is a mix concerned with the idea of taking a collective breath and allowing records their own space.

MALL GRAB

New to the scene, but not to be underestimated, 22-year-old Mall Grab is breaking all kinds of moulds on his rapid rise to recognition on the world stage. Working from the confines of his decidedly un-electronic hometown of Newcastle, NSW, he is a clear example of the connective power of the Internet. Proof that the web does have the ability get real talent noticed. His sound has been described as ‘mildly celestial “hella stoned” introspections that pay homage to old Three 6 Mafia mixtapes as much as more recent astral experiences in house and techno.’ Inverted Audio says that ‘Mall Grab has steadily grown into a surefire purveyor of leg-stretching, dusty house material.’ With support from artists like George Fitzgerald and Four Tet, it seems like the best is still yet to come.

Helado Negro at The Ground

One of experimental electronic producer Roberto Carlos Lange's numerous monikers, Helado Negro, enchants our stage on Thursday October 3rd!

Since its dawn, Helado Negro has achieved a successful organic growth. The inclusiveness of myriad forms of meticulous music craftsmanship has kept Helado Negro flourishing with a powerful force. Roberto Carlos Lange, the voice and mastermind behind the act, has cultured his identity, ideology and musical dexterity with constant artistic and introspective development; Lange is an innovator involved in every phase of his creation. He has brilliantly accomplished powerful works with formidable statements, altogether praised by public and media. Yet, most importantly, every release has served as an exploration of practice of Lange’s unique nature of expression. Full-length LPs such as Invisible Life, Canta Lechuza and Awe Owe hold a common denominator of experimentation and refinement that serve as the solid foundation of Lange’s fundamental pillar in the process of music; by building upon every LP and EP every step unveils a new layer of Lange’s talent. A music making process which is illustrated with the chapters of originality throughout the Island Universe Story series, released in three EPs, which instantly became a distinctive mark to Lange’s commitment to produce and engage in music. The result is a contentious approach in creativity that exemplifies a perfect equilibrium of electronic music with shades in kraut rock bathed in mesmerizing rhythms and loops with hair-raising melodies. Lange provokes a sensorial, imagery and emotional experience. Lange pours his heart and full sincerity in his music. The lyrics, in his soothing and enchanting voice, are accompanied by musical arrangements which overall create a solid and well-rounded result.

A South Florida native, born to Ecuadorian immigrants and based in Brooklyn, his upbringing provides essential elements to his songwriting, including his consistently bilingual lyrics in English and Spanish. Exploring the expressivity within intense states of being, Latinx identity, and pluralistic sensibilities, his music can be characterized as lyrically personal and political avant pop music.

Born in Florida to Ecuadorian immigrants and currently residing in Brooklyn, Lange’s upbringing provides essential elements to the backbone of his music, in particular his songwriting. Helado Negro has a consistent bilingual – English and Spanish– presence in lyrics. With a hybrid identity and music as a vehicle, Lange eradicates barriers of language and space hence positioning culture at a balanced intersection. His music crosses physical borders and creates a cross-cultural connection where Spanish and English exist in congenial and harmonious manner; as well as people being united through music in boundless space of real time.

Roberto Lange, as a multifaceted creator, uses various forms of conceptual expression; he also has a profound affinity and participation in art as a visual artist working with mediums such as video, sound and performance. Helado Negro, beyond the persona, serves as a creative space that encourages a cohesive collision of art and music. As a result, Lange’s career has carefully interweaved each aspect in an equally intense manner. The idiosyncrasy in his production is clearly visible in every step, from details in the art of the album cover to songwriting and live performance, a well-tailored natural flux connecting every element.

Without any doubt, Roberto Lange has mastered the art of his hallmark sound, an elegant combination of carefully crafted sounds in accordance to an overall hypnotizing aura. Definitely, Helado Negro is a shivers-down- the spine listening experience.

Nightmares on Wax (DJ)

Iconic Warp mainstay Nightmares on Wax is making his long-anticipated return to our city on Saturday September 21st. The marriage of soul, hip-hop, dub and timeless club sounds that N.O.W. has been mutating and perfecting for years finds perhaps its most fluid form yet in his latest work.

Energized by globetrotting runs of studio sessions and DJ sets, this latest salvo is a masterpiece of contemporary and classic genre-blending that solidifies Nightmares On Wax’s place as an inspirational electronic music figurehead. This includes the shamanistic vocals of recent single Back To Nature, and in particular the arresting voices of Mozez alongside Kanye West and Flume collaborator Allan Kingdom, as featured on brand new cut Citizen Kane.

Nightmares on Wax is one of the most influential artists of a generation, his music has inspired many musicians and producers across the globe over his quarter decade career. As Warp’s longest serving active artist, he has broadened the sound of the label and paved the way for artists such as Flying Lotus, Hudson Mohawke and Mount Kimbie.

Kerela Dust (LIVE) at The Ground

Kerela Dust makes their highly anticipated return to Space for their LIVE debut at The Ground. It’s a night you won’t want to miss!

KERALA DUST seeks to bridge that divide between electronic music and traditional songwriting, drawing on influences as far and wide as Tom Waits, Talking Heads and Abdulla Rashim.

Currently based in South London, the strange and excessive confusion of the city is reflected back in the anonymity of Kerala Dust’s basement studio. Whether as a solo artist in production or as a live trio in performance : the members within the inclusive isolation of this project would like you to dance while also wondering if there’s really a point to anything. The realisation that there is no point will merely be liberating.

KERALA DUST WILL TAKE YOU TO ANOTHER PLANET WITHIN YOURSELF.

You’re out driving in the cool desert air, the only car under a starry night sky.

You’re in a dark crowded room, lonely even though you’re surrounded by anonymous faces.

You’re walking along a neon-lit street with a warm breeze carrying a distant thump.

These are all things you can think when listening to Kerala Dust. By which you could say their music is very distinctive and very evocative of emotion. Take a listen, you’ll know what we mean.

It’s definitely something you can bump along to, but nothing you would blast obnoxiously. It’s cool, sophisticated, and deep. All of that extends beyond their sound and into their visual branding as well.

Khruangbin (DJ Set)

August 23, 2019 | Khruangbin DJ Set 11pm-4am

Join us at The Ground at Space Miami for a special Friday evening DJ Set with Laura Lee and Mark Speer of Khruangbin as they share records dug for on their travels around the world. This is the selection too good to leave behind.

Khruangbin is formed of Laura Lee on bass, Mark Speer on guitar, and Donald "DJ" Johnson on drums. The globetrotting Texan trio's sound is rooted in classic soul & RnB and informed by psychedelia, dub and music from around the world - all captured in widescreen and performed with impeccable style.

Whereas their 2015 debut album 'The Universe Smiles Upon You' was influenced by 60s and 70s Thai cassettes and compilations of southeast Asian pop, rock and funk, 2018's 'Con Todo El Mundo' hops east over India to take inspiration in similarly underdiscovered funk and soul sounds of the Middle-East, particularly from Iran. Laura Lee explains the album's title: "My grandpa would always ask me 'Como me quieres?' ('how much do you love me'?), and he'd only ever accept one response. 'Con todo el mundo' (With all the world).”

Khruangbin DJ sets reflect the bands passion for music from all around the globe, that keeps the dance floor moving.

Florida native, Yeek, makes his debut with us at The Ground on Thursday August 15th!

Yeek is a Los Angeles based singer, songwriter, and producer originally from South Florida. His music is a distinctive blend of elements taken from hip hop, rock and pop -- a reflection of the genreless ears of youth in 2019. In 2017 he released his album Sebastian, an infectiously melancholy collection of tracks that turned heads. More recently Yeek released his EP BLACKHEART, on which he demonstrated significant artistic growth and a more realized vision. That project left Yeek poised to have a breakout 2019 as he prepares the release of his forthcoming EP IDK WHERE.

Nicola Cruz (DJ Set)

Nicola Cruz (DJ Set)

Nicola Cruz is an electronic producer, musician, and DJ. Born in France to proud South American descent, he currently lives and works in Quito, Ecuador, in the heart of the Andes mountains. Nicola started his career as a percussionist, thanks to which he developed an early interest in electronic music.

His work draws from a broad variety of sources, in particular, a deep passion for the Andean landscapes, their cultures, rituals, and rhythms. His music radiates an intimate understanding of nature, from the organic exuberance of his sound to the soft cadence of his songs.

In this mix a delicate balance between forces always prevails: his music is deeply rhythmic without losing the melody, and even though it is formed in collaboration with artists from different times and spaces, it remains personal and intimate.

From this musical connection between past and present, traditional and modern, an ongoing South American movement has arisen, exploring local indigenous and afro cosmologies through a carefully crafted analog sound.

Whether bending genres or collaborating with artists like James Blake, MGMT, and Charlotte Gainsbourg, Connan Mockasin has always maneuvered in mysterious ways. After touring with the likes of Radiohead and Neil & Liam Finn (Crowded House), the R&B surrealist continues assembling a cult around his theater, nay spectacle, of life. Jassbusters is Connan Mockasin’s third album and first in five years.

An unclassifiable, unconventional album that neither picks up from nor abandons the modes of 2013’s widely-embraced Caramel or its 2010 predecessor Forever Dolphin Love, Jassbusters foreshadows a five-part melodrama film titled Bostyn 'n Dobsyn, created by Mockasin. Jassbusters soundtracks the unpredictable narrative of the film in eclectic, electric ways.
